A grateful family member sent this note of gratitude to a special hospice nurse, who she calls an “angel of
mercy.” This is a fitting tribute to all our amazing nurses who put heart and soul into caring for our patients.
“ … The family made the incredibly painful decision to remove [the patient] from life support and take her home to spend her last days surrounded by loved ones.
“At home, she was assigned a kind, compassionate and capable nurse. She did an incredible job of ministering to the needs of her patient and counseling the family as they began to grieve the imminent loss of their loved one. In addition to keeping her pain-free and comfortable, the nurse knew just when to gently suggest that an exhausted family member get some sleep or take a few steps away when emotions became too much to bear.
“She was truly our ‘angel’ during the most difficult times.”
National Nurses Week is May 6–12, and the 2017 emphasis is “The Year of the Healthy Nurse.” This month we are celebrating all our Covenant Care nurses, as they lead the charge for health and wellness in their communities and among their peers.
