Tallahassee, Fla., Oct. 16, 2017 –The Tallahassee Area Threshold Choir is partnering with Covenant Care and the Unitarian Universalist Church of Tallahassee to offer an evening to address the issue of grief.
Have you ever been with a friend who has just lost someone dear, or is experiencing a challenging health crisis, and yet apologizes to you for their tears? Or perhaps you’ve been that person, yourself. It’s not unusual: we live in a culture that discourages the normal grief and mourning process, that very passage that can lead us to reconciliation and even healing, of our losses.
On Monday, October 23rd, we will show an award-winning documentary Voices of Grief, Honoring the Sacred Journey. The film shares a fresh perspective on the many ways all of us can learn to navigate successfully through grief, or companion others along their journey. Voices of Grief is based on an interplay of teachings from contemporary authors, poets, and spiritual teachers coupled with the stories of ordinary people. Before the 5:45 p.m. showing, attendees are invited to gather for light refreshments, and a chance to transition from the day’s work. Music will be provided by the Tallahassee Area Threshold Choir. After the documentary, there will be a period for “heart-felt” discussion guided by Pat Keown, R.N., L.C.S.W. Her 50-year career in mental health has focused on issues of the heart.
