“Nonie” -a variant of the Italian word 'Noni'or 'Nona' meaning, Grandmother.
A place full of laughs, hugs, encouragement, and love is exactly the kind of place that Jane Lauter, Sara Ryan, and the Kugelman family remember when visiting their own grandmother, Jane Kugelman.
“Our grandmother, affectionately known to us as ‘Nonie’ lost her father at a very young age. She spoke often about her loss, and how the worry and emotions weighed heavily on her as a child.” To honor their grandmother’s vision of creating a brighter future for the youngest and most vulnerable in our community, The Kugelman Family Foundation has named Covenant Care’s new children’s grief house; Nonie’s Place!
Located in Pensacola at 1901 N. Palafox Street, Nonie’s Place powered by Covenant Care, connects families to free resources and mental health professionals who are eager to help any child or teen struggling with physical or mental challenges associated with grief and loss.
Programs offered at Nonie’s Place will support children ages 5-18 and include one-on-one counseling, group therapy, peer support groups, art therapy studios, Camp Connect, Kid’s Wish, and community grief education.
“Loss can be scary, worrisome, and filled with emotions that are unknown to children. Sadly, we all experience loss in one way or another”, said Jane Lauter, President of the Kugelman Foundation. “We are so honored to name this warm and inviting home after our Nonie, a woman who loved and cared deeply. She would never want to see any child filled with sadness or loss.”
Covenant Care is grateful for the Kugelman family's generosity and is looking forward to opening the doors of 𝘕𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘦'𝘴 𝘗𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦 in Summer 2023.
