(Pensacola, FL) – Covenant Care’s Tallahassee Camp Connect will take place at the Northside Community Center located at 8005 Oak Grove Road in Tallahassee on Saturday, July 9th from 9:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. with a family dinner to follow.
Camp Connect is a bereavement day camp for children ages 6-17 who have suffered a loss, or those who have a terminally-ill loved one. At Camp Connect children find laughter in their tears, strength in their fears and a helping hand in their journey through grief.
Thanks to the generous support of Peter Boulware Toyota, Camp Connect is free and open to any child in our community.
Utilizing confidence-building exercises and artistic activities, Camp Connect gives children the opportunity to explore and express their emotions, equips them with a better understanding of their grief and offers ways of coping with their feelings – all while making connections with others who have experienced a loss.
Losing a loved one is especially hard for children. Before they graduate from high school, one out of every 20 children will lose a parent — and that number does not include those who experience the death of a sibling, a grandparent, an aunt or uncle, or friend. Many children simply have not developed the skills to cope with the death of a loved one.
“I loved Camp Connect because it helped me understand that it’s not my fault that daddy died,” said a recent camper. “I really liked learning yoga at camp because it helped me to learn to relax.”
